Not too long ago I touched upon the importance of doing keyword research for your niche site or blog. This was something that I feel so strongly about because I spent a long time missing out growing my blog traffic.
What I have also discovered is that this is only one piece of the traffic generation puzzle because as much as you plan your keywords based on research, there’s still no guarantee that you’ll have enough traffic to make a serious leap. Besides that, it’s never a good idea to put your eggs in one basket. Here are few other ways to get the word about your blog in a way that will get your site in front of people you wouldn’t normally have access to.
Automating Blog Syndication
As I was creating my traffic generation plan, I discovered this site called Onlywire.com which said that they would send my blog posts to 47 reputable, high traffic sites. When I checked them out, I as amazed because not only were they affordable, but the list of sites they had was solid. We’re talking Serpd, Scribd, NewsVine, LiveJournal…to name a few. Imagine, every time you published a blog post, this service would send your post to those sites on your
behalf. I also use BlogEngage which I named as one of the fun social sites to help increase blog traffic but I figured between these two services, I’m getting my blog in front of a lot of people with just a couple of clicks.
Repurpose Your Blog Content

So what does that mean? Basically it means putting your blog content you’ve never heard about it, it’s a site pioneered by marketing expert Seth Godin. You create this individual page and it can have any kind of content as long as it ties together. Much like visitors gawk at retail store display windows in New York, people will search, find your lens, read it, click it, share it, like it, comment on it. Just to play around, I created my own Squidoo lens based on my SEO checklist post. It was fun and I even added some ads and links to other blogs. in a different medium or changing the way the same information is delivered. One way I did this was to create a lens on Squidoo. If
Turn Your Blog Post Into Audio
What if you were to record yourself reading your blog post? That would be a great way to make it into a free podcast and share it on iTunes. If you don’t have the software to record your own voice, you can use a site like naturalreaders.com that turns text to synthesized speech.
…or Video
Let’s not forget about YouTube. Research found that search within the YouTube site is strong which means that people could be looking for what you have. That’s serious traffic generation potential. If you found a way to translate the information on your blog into a video that means you could put it up on YouTube with a link to your main blog. One site that I have been keeping an eye on is Powtoon. Users can create animated videos and presentations for free up to 90 seconds!
There was a time when all you could do was just create a post and that’s it. Now, by doing any or all of these, you open up your blog to a wider audience which helps you get more traffic.
If you’ve got any other traffic generation tools, feel free to share!

this is an awesome post. I find it really interesting and helpful. Thank you for sharing this.
I have appreciated reading the articles in your blog. Having a “fresh” approach is something that’s necessary at times to think outside of the box when things get stale. With algorithms and SEO rules changing daily, this is a necessity to keep pace nowadays. Thank you very much.
Why Thanks! The rules will always change and it can be a bit dizzying. I’ve just decided to write for people and not the search engines these days. Thanks so much for the kind comment!

Hi D!
You’ve definitely covered several really great ways to get more traffic to your blog.
I’m tried a few of these myself with no luck I’m afraid. I think we all have to find what works best for us and then run with it so not everything that is shared out there may benefit everyone. What a hard lesson that was.
I appreciate you breaking these down like this. You know I was with Blog Engage for the longest time and never really got any benefit from it. I’ve soon learned that Google ignores those blogging networks now. Man was I ever bummed about that.
Thanks for sharing these tips and I do hope you’ve been having a wonderful week.

P.S. FYI, your Twitter ID isn’t set up in your Twitter social icon in case you weren’t aware.

Hi Adrienne,
First off, thanks for the tip; I’ve fixed it. Also, I totally agree. You have to find what works for you. It’s a game of hit and miss but unless you’re into it, it’s not going to work. I as with BlogEngage for a while and I like having a network of blogs I could just visit and check out so in that way, it worked for me but I believe in what Brian’s doing so I definitely put it up there.
Thanks so much for your comments and the feedback. Have a fantastic weekend!

Very unique ways to generate traffic. I like the idea of converting blog posts into audio and sharing in iTunes. I think it can generate a good about of traffic as lots of people prefer to listen on the go than read.

Exactly! I’ve been stuck in traffic, didn’t want to listen to the radio and just popped in my iPod. As more people are taking longer commutes, chances are they’re looking to add to their podcast list. That’s an opportunity! I plan to really get into it later this year. Cheers, Shalu

I am looking forward to getting into the audio later this year and I just think those are great ways to expand reach. It’s amazing how much opportunity still exists there. Thanks so much for visiting

I just joined Blog Engage last week, and did my first submission today, in fact. Are you finding that traffic is clicking through from your submitted articles?
Also Squidoo is pretty good for traffic AND residual income. From 20 articles I’ve submitted to Squidoo, I earn about $200-$300 a month. It’s a combination of affiliate sales and money earned from the ad pool.
